Pearl necklaces are timeless and elegant, but over time the silk thread that holds them together can stretch, weaken or fray. If worn regularly, pearls should be professionally restrung every two years to maintain their security and appearance. For occasional wear, we recommend restringing approximately every four years.
A weakened strand can break without warning, risking damage or loss of your pearls. By restringing before this happens, you protect both the beauty and longevity of your jewellery.
At Lumbers, we carefully assess your necklace or bracelet and provide a clear quotation and estimated timeframe before any work begins. Once approved, your pearls are professionally restrung with precision and care, restoring their structure and ensuring they can be worn confidently once again.
It is normal for a pearl necklace to shorten slightly – sometimes by up to two inches – after restringing, as the stretched silk thread is replaced with a secure new strand.
Pearl restringing is typically completed within 2–3 weeks, depending on the piece and current demand.
